40. Woman dies spill with family RIDGETOP, Tenn. A Ridgetop woman died of head injuries she received in a freak bicycle accident while riding with other family members, officials said yesterday. Janet Kohler, 28, died Sunday afternoon in Vanderbilt University Medical Center after she was injured while bicycling Friday with her husband of one month, Benny Kohler, and her son, Joshua Bowers, 6. The accident occured about 7:50 p.m.

as the three were riding along Timber Trails Road in Ridgetop, said investigators with the Robertson County Sheriff's Office. "For reasons unknown, perhaps inexperience, the Kohlers' 6-year-old son stopped his bicycle suddenly," said Sgt. James Miller. "Mrs. Kohler was behind him and could not stop in time and collided with her son's bicycle." Both Janet Kohler and her son hit the pavement, Miller said.

The child was not seriously injured. Kohler was taken to Vanderbilt by air ambulance with severe head injuries. Services for Mrs. Kohler will be at 10 a.m. today at Cole and Garrett Funeral Home, Goodlettsville.

The black male, about 5 feet 9 inches tall with a medium build, entered the store and ordered a chicken sandwich. When the store clerk returned with it, the man grabbed another customer, held a gun to him, and demanded all the money from the register. He hurriedly left the store with the cash and was last seen getting into a beige station wagon with woodgrain side panels and a luggage rack.

(AP) -A judge reduced charges of second-degree murder to voluntary manslaughter yesterday against a woman who first 1 reported her 4-year-old daughter missing and later was arrested for the girl's disappearance.

Obion County General Sessions Judge Raymond Morris ordered the reduction during a court appearance by Pam Childress Bailey, who waived her right to a preliminary hearing in the case. Bailey, 22, is charged in the death of her daughter, Marlena Childress, whom she first reported missing April 16. Bailey's attorney, Wayne Emmons, said the hearing was waived to put the case back in perspective. "We feel by the time the grand jury meets there might be new evidence and now there is a vigorous investigation going on with the TBI working actively on the case," Emmons said.
