HOUSTON (KIAH) – The westbound lanes of the Katy Freeway between downtown and the Inner Loop are back open after a major accident involving an 18-wheeler shutdown all westbound lanes of the highway.

Two lanes of inbound traffic also had to be shut down as crews worked to clean up a hazardous materials spill and get the heavy truck upright.

The accident happened on I-10 Katy Westbound at T.C. Jester Blvd around 12:30 am Monday. The accident led to heavy traffic delays for nearly six and half hours. The truck’s load had to be transported to a flatbed before the 18-wheeler could be made upright, which happened shortly after 6 am.

Crews from the Texas Department of Transportation cleared the scene before 7 am, but delays were felt well into the morning rush.
