La 70634 4 HersWin Honors The 1978 Beauregard Parish 4 "Sew With Cotton Contest' was held January 21 The contest was open to all Beauregard 4 club members The winners in the Jr division were: Karen Wright of the DeRidder 7th 4 Club 1st Vicky Augustine of the DeRidder 6th 4 Club 2nd Charloette Bruce of the South Beauregard Jr High 4 Club 3rd Other contestants in the Jr division were: Jennifer Bow man Janet Bowman Belinda Carter Beverly Pickering Angela Pierce Sharan Duncan Thalesia Pierce and Moretta Reed all from the Singer Jr 4 Club: and Lorenda Phillips from the East Beauregard Jr 4 Club The winners in the Senior division were: Mary Nell Cole of East Beauregard Sr 4 Club 1st Telina Hines of the DeRidder Sr 4 Club 2nd: Melinda Mohney of the Merryville Sr 4 Club 3rd Other participants in the Sr Division were: Anita Johnson contest were Mrs Lettie Ann Kennedv and Miss Cynthia Childs Miss Sylvia Hawkes Assis tant Home Economist with the Cooperative Extension Service wishes to express her apprecia tion and gratitude for the parents and local leaders in terest in this contest State Contest The State 4 Sew With Cot ton Contest was held in Alexan dria on ebruary 9 Mary Nell Cole 1st Place Winner in the parish 4 Sew With Cotton Contest was selected as one cf the top ten contestants in the state out of 58 entries and was awarded a blue ribbon and a gift The modeling and judging of the garments began at 10:00 am in the Alexandria Mall All of the models in the state fashion event were Sr 4 winners in the parish 4 Sew With Cotton Contests throughout the state The con tests were attended singing convention held Temple Baptist Church DeQuincy The EU A Chapter Singer High School celebrated National HA week last week A meeting was held ri day ebruary 10 to elect parish officers Two girls from Singer High School were elected Connie Wilson is HA President and Judy Tilton is secretary Each day the girls had something plann ed They honored the teachers one day and another they wore crazy socks ties and hats The annual HA Progressive Dinner was held on riday ebruary 17 The Singer Hornets are in the league playoffs at Lake Charles High School It started Wednesday Saturday Singer Hathaway Singer girls play Reeves pm Thursday Lots of Hornets' The Rosepine Chapter No 204 DES recently held riendship Night with some 65 guests and members in atten dance A bountiful bullet meal was enjoyed before the meeting with a lovely valentine theme carried out in the dining room A surprise birthday program was given for Mrs Elizabeth Brooks a long lime member of the chapter Each member of of the DeRidder 8th 4 club Connie Bonvillain of the South Beauregard Sr 4 Club and Sharon Burns of the DeRidder Sr 4 Club Mary Nell Cole 1st Place Sr Winner represented Beauregard 4 Clubs in the state "Sew With Cotton Contest" on ebruary 9 The judges for the parish Rosepine Chapter 204 OES Observes riendship Night the star points and officers read a short poem and presented Mrs Brooks with a long stemmed red silk rose Guests were welcomed from as far away as Minnesota Bridge City Texas Shreveport Westlake Merryville Sugar town Leesville and DeRidder Grand Honors were extend ed to Virginia Patton Worthy Grand Matron of the Grand Chapter District Allison was district 15 mittee members and grand representatives were in troduced The chapter welcomed Mrs Lenore Carpenter grand representative from Minnesota tion of the cost of individual concerts This is accomplished through the "Organized Audience Plan" Workers enroll members during an an nual membership drive and attendance at the concerts is by membership only There is no financial risk to any individual or group Since ail organizational work is volunteer all funds are used to pay for the concerts and membership costs are minimal Season membership is $12 for adults $6 for students and $36 for a family including two adults and all the children Miss arrell expressed her personal gratitude to the
